SIDEARM Sports Growing Mustaches in Cancer Effort

SIDEARM Sports, a Syracuse NY based website company, is doing more than just developing websites this November. SIDEARM recruited 118 gentlemen encompassing 60 schools and organizations to participate in the national Movember movement to help fight and raise awareness for the battle against cancer. All, including Temple head men’s basketball coach Fran Dunphy, will be sprouting mustaches to raise vital funds and awareness for cancer. For each and every person that participates in the “challenge,” SIDEARM Sports will be making a donation to the Movember Foundation.

“Our company is like a family and when Chris (Kirkegaard) came to me with this idea it was an easy, yes,” SIDEARM Sports President/CEO Jeffery Rubin said. “I am thrilled that so many of our clients, including Coach Dunphy from Temple, decided to join us as we try to eradicate this awful disease.”

"Anytime I can help fight this dreaded disease I will do it," Dunphy said.  "This is a great promotion spearheaded by our athletic website provider, SIDEARM Sports, and I am more than happy to lend my name, and facial hair, to the cause."
This initiative was started by SIDEARM Sports’s creative director, Chris Kirkegaard. This past year, after a heroic fight, Kirkegaard’s mother lost her 14-month battle with small cell lung cancer. Now, as a company, SIDEARM wants to do its part to help ‘kick cancer’s butt.’

“I want to thank Jeff (Rubin), my coworkers and the entire SIDEARM family for participating in this cancer-pummeling movement,” Kirkegaard said. “My mom was the director of a non-profit that helped children in need, and spent her life helping people. In that spirit, I couldn’t sit idly by when the opportunity presented itself to help current cancer patients, and to take a step towards eradicating it entirely.”

To motivate its participants, SIDEARM has turned the event into a healthy competition and will be awarded a few prizes for best and worst mustaches. To watch the ‘staches grow, see winners and losers of weekly contests visit http://sidearmsports.com/movember.aspx.
